I Won the Lottery

I was driving down a road in Charlotte shortly after I moved to the place.  I saw a gas station and decided to hop on in to buy a lottery ticket which is something that I never do.  I scratched it and the numbers all stacked up and it said that I won $100. I thought to myself "there is no way this could happen!" and put the lottery ticket away somewhere.

Months later I am driving around town again and I happened to have the lottery ticket on me.  I went to a Harris Teeter, which at the time was recently bought out by Kroger, and took the ticket to the customer service counter.  The guy scans it and says "You won $100" I looked at him surprised and said "really! I had that thing for the longest time! I never thought you could actually win!" He looked back at me grumpily and handed me the cash.

The moral of the story is that some times great things that happen are right before your eyes and you just have to believe that things really can be great and all you have to do is open up your eyes and see it.  Or wait, maybe the true moral of the story is that you really have to not doubt yourself because great things come to those who believe in themselves.  You know, maybe the real moral is something else.  Maybe it is that you have to learn to take risks, do something as crazy as buy a lottery ticket.  Or maybe there is no moral at all to this story.  Maybe it is just all probability and I just so happened to be at the right place at the right time and bought the right lottery ticket.

Later in the year I ended up buying several other lottery tickets.  I won nothing on any of them.  It got to the point to where I was spending a noticeable chunk of the $100 on losing tickets.  So I told myself that it is time to stop buying these things.  I just have to be okay with the fact that I scored a one-hit wonder.
